Tá an buntástaí ann sa gcóras ióga do déagóirí. Leis an gcorp, mar atá, ag athrú is ag fás – tugann rang ióga seans do dhaoine suaimhneas a ghlacadh is a fhorbairt ina saol. Bíonn na ghéaga le síneadh amach, na scámhógaí le líonadh is an ghuth a spreagadh agus mar sin bíonn greann agus sonas an tábhachtach sna ranganna leo.

Dé ghnáth tosnaíonn rang le foghlaim anáil – pranayama mar a dtugtar ar san Ind as a tháinig an eolaíocht ársa seo. Bíonn an bhéim ar an intinn sna blianta seo agus uaireanta cailleann an duine óg an béas conas a bheith ciúin iontu féin. Tugann an ciúnas seo faoiseamh agus spás dóibh.

Leis an cineál ióga atá á mhúineadh agam, déantar ‘kriyas’ – sraith aclaíocht fisiciúil a bhfuil tioncar ar leith acu ar sláinte an duine. Tá kriya ann don ‘glandular system’ , don croí, do solúbthacht droma, don inchinn srl. Mar sin, is féidir sraith ranganna a dhéanamh leo ag obair ar théama éagsúla. Anuas ar sin, tá na céadta infheicthe nó machnamh speisialta ann, cuid maith dóibh le sláinte intinne a fhorbairt.

Anuas ar sin, bíonn am i ngach rang le suaimhneas iomlán a ghlacadh le cheol deas.

Is aoibheann le pástaí an ióga mar bíonn seans acu am taithneamhach a caitheamh ar an mata, a phlé le scéalta, ag bogadh is ag súgradh le chéile. Na laethanta seo tá sé an tábhachtach don aos óg go mbíonn siad ag foghlaim faoin gcorp – conas is féidir faoiseamh a fháil nuair a titeann an strus orthu na blianta atá amach rompu. Bíonn siad ag cleachtadh an ióga in atmaisféar taithneamhach neamhiomaíoch le chéile is ag foghlaim le scéalaíocht, amhráin agus cluichí. Tá a lán machnaimh speisialta sa traidisiúin kundalini yoga comh maith atá fíor oiriúnach do pástaí óga. Mar is ceoltóir mé is aoibheann liom na n-amhráin a mhúineadh le ceol beo.

Ag foghlaim teanga na Gaeilge le ióga, is slí spraoimhar é a spreagadh meas agus suim sa teanga iontu.

Children love to move and they need rhythm. Today increasingly we see the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle, too much screen time and too little physical exercise. Yoga is more than just physical exercise however – children practice in a playful way through stories, songs and in a nurturing and non-competitive atmosphere. Developing body awareness, and a sense of themselves – their limits and potentials in physical movement, children grow in confidence!

Learning Irish language through Yoga is a fun way to introduce new vocabulary, as well as inspiring appreciation of the language. As young children appreciate storytelling, many other aspects of the curriculum can also be supported within a yoga class – for example, Geography and History. Science and Physical Education are also key elements of awareness and development.

Conas a cabhraíonn an ióga do sláinte an duine óg?

Solúbthacht a fhorbairt – Children become more flexible through regular practice, this also has a positive effect on their emotional lives and reasoning processes.

Ag síneadh amach – Stretching helps to stretch the spine and is also good for the glandular system.

Cothromaíocht – Balancing poses help to strengthen the abdomen and to co ordinate mind and body. Active balance poses that involve crossing the midline help to bring both hemispheres of the brain into balance.

Ag glacadh suaimhneas – Relaxation  allows the body to integrate the benefits of the yoga exercises that have been practiced, also balancing the parasympathetic nervous system.
